IMPORTANT: When installing a foil rope heater for a particular volt-
age actuator, ensure that the heater has the proper voltage rating,
compatible with the actuator. Heaters with different voltage ratings
than actuator may be installed if the heater is wired independently
from actuator. The voltage and wattage are both marked on the
heater. Also, be sure that heater is in contact with the metal part
of motor module or gear train, as a heat sink is important so that
heater does not overheat.
A. 10-30 HK75 Installation
1. Remove cover of actuator to gain access to internals. On
10-23 75, it is recommended to remove motor module to
get better access to mounting area.
2. Using a commercially available cleaner, wipe the areas to
which the heater will be applied (see the illustrations on
next page) to remove greases, oils and dirt from the metal
surfaces, and allow it to dry.
3. Remove the paper backing on the heater, exposing the
adhesive surface. Starting from the depression on 10-23 75
actuators (or the left side of gear train support on 25-30 75
actuators) begin to apply the heater. Press the adhesive side
of the heater to the actuator’s cleaned surfaces, taking care
to apply the heater tightly onto the curvatures. Smooth the
heater out by pressing along entire surface with your hand.
4. Refer to wiring diagram (Figure 3) and/or inside actuator
cover. Wire one side of the heater to the terminal strip at
terminal 1 for AC or terminal 11 for DC.
NOTE: All wiring to terminal strip should be inserted only to
midpoint of terminal strip.
When there are multiple wires going to terminal 1, use the
short white wire included in kit. Connect it to terminal 1 and
then splice it to the other white wires (common) using the
closed-end splice provided.
5. Connect the other wire of the heater to one wire of the
thermostat using the wiring connector provided in the kit
and crimp properly.
6. Connect the other lead on the thermostat to the terminal
strip at terminal 2 for AC or terminal 12 for DC.
7. Apply the appropriate voltage between terminals 1 and 2
for AC or 11 and 12 for DC. (Terminal 1 is common to AC
actuator power.)
8. For 10-30 75 actuators, locate the thermostat under the
right side limit switch(es) (as viewed from terminal strip).
Position thermostat conveniently so that wires can reach
terminal 2 for AC or terminal 12 for DC. For 25 and 30
75 actuators, tie thermostat to switch post using wire tie
included in kit. Keep wiring away from any rotating parts.
9. The thermostat will energize the heater at temperatures
below 210°C.
NOTE: If heater is used with electrical fail-safe option (F75),
an AC heater must be used. The heater is wired to terminals
11 and 12 of terminal strip, which are then wired to termi-
nals 9 and 10 of fail-safe module.
